All Skin-Deep lyrics written by W.Kenyon except 'Come Into My Parlour' written by Bleechers (interpreted by the members of Skin-Deep).

The Sycamores

The Sycamores, on the other side
The people there are so content, it’s an easy ride
Think back and remember, before they came
Some time ago when we thought everyone the same

A lion statue, houses with names
A vehicle that makes no noise and conservative games
Where did they come from, out of the blue
Royal disciples taking power from me and you

And all the wealth in the world is not enough to satisfy their appetite for more

Our Own Way

Back in the early days, they all laughed at us
They all tried to stop us, they made quite a fuss
But we always said, we wouldn’t let them win

When someone dropped out, another would join in

And we don’t care about your views
We’re proud of what we are

We’re all stars in our own way, we don’t need to go far

And we knew we had a battle, but we knew we were right
And we would not give in or run away and hide
We took all of our chances, made all them count

And now we’re on our way we won’t fall apart

And we know we’ll not be covered by the music press
We’ll be overlooked ‘cos of the way we dress
And they’ll all say we failed ‘cos they don’t understand

It’s all a different scene and we’re a different band

More Than Skin-Deep

Well here’s a little story about people we know
We dislike all they stand for and everything they do
Thriving off oppression and telling their white lies

There has to be an end to this hatred in their eyes

It goes more than skin deep
It’s not just a passing phase
It goes more than skin deep

In many different ways

It goes more than skin deep
It’s not just a passing phase
It goes more than skin deep
In many different ways

I don’t understand how we can let this be
A clear abuse of power that everyone can see
But we’ll just carry on living for the day

When once again they’re equal and we have had our say

I Won’t Be Fooled

On a cold winters morning as I stroll into town
I hear a noise behind me as I’m pushed to the ground
A pack of wolves they gather round, a punch, a kick then blood
They will never change my views

It won’t do them no good

These thoughts they keep playing on my mind
They seem to be there all the time
That feeling of power in their gang / I won’t be fooled
To pick out and then attack one man / I won’t be fooled
Something tells me this can’t be right / I won’t be fooled
A violent world that only wants to fight, only wants to fight

I hear a laugh and see a blade flash before my eyes
I feel a blow across my back then all is cold inside
Now all I see is darkness and wake up somewhere strange

Was it real or just a dream it all seems out of range

What Else Could We Do

She smiled when she won and smiled as we lost
And waved to please the crowd
They say of this great land, that there’s freedom of speech

As long as you don’t speak too loud

But we’d all hoped for hours of fun
But what else could we do

What else could we do

And when it was done a man stood all alone
And quietly he wept to himself
He’d heard that all good things came in groups of three

But here’s a three that was something else

We laughed and danced and played wild gigs and cast a vote for more
But there’s no way that we could win cos she was on the door

She was on the door

There’s Much More

As you lay alone thinking of your life
It’s not what you want, something don’t  seem right
Don’t be like the rest, don’t follow the crowd

Think of something new and shout your thoughts out loud

Why do people always listen to their lies
There’s much more to life if you open your eyes

There’s  too many people without the guts to try
Too many lives are wasted all you can do is sigh
They tell you that your life is there to be enjoyed

But if it’s not their way the pass you off as void

Another Way

I haven’t seen your face round here for sometime
I thought you said we were too low
You said you’d never mix with our kind ever

Because we had nowhere to go

You say you worked for everything you own
But we know you inherited your throne
Everything you tell us is a lie

You’re disliked but you can’t see why

I know you don’t agree with what I have to say

But you must try to understand that there’s another way

It’s your kind who try to scare us with the dole
The threaten us with nothing at all
You think you are safe you think you’re secure

But one day you’ll feel that no more

You’re never cold in winter same as us
You’re chauffer driven when we take the bus
You’re not the same no matter how you try

Dishonestly you hold your head up high

I know you don’t agree with what I have to say

But you must try to understand that there’s another way

I haven’t seen your face round here for sometime
I thought you said we were too low
You said you’d never mix with our kind ever

Because we had nowhere to go

You say you worked for everything you own
But we know you inherited your throne
You’re not the same no matter how you try

Dishonestly you hold your head up high

I know you don’t agree with what I have to say

But you must try to understand that there’s another way

Come Into My Parlour

Rude boys outta jail (quiet in background just before song starts)

You are the kind of girl that I’ve been looking for
You are the kind of girl that I’ve been hearing about
You better come into my parlour
Said the spider to the fly
You better come into my parlour

That’s what I’m saying to you now

I hear those voices say woman that you’re a real good swinger
The way that you walk and you shake it
Girl I still don’t doubt it
You better come and let me prove it
I wanna prove it to my self
You better come and let me prove it

I want you just here for myself

I can’t even sleep at night
You’re leaving home in misery

Then I remember the way in which you walk and you shake it

Girl
You give me all haste
You give me all haste
You give me all haste

You give me all haste

You better come into my parlour
Said the spider to the fly
You better come into my parlour

That’s what I’m saying to you now

I can’t even sleep at night
You’re leaving home in misery

Then I remember the way in which you walk and you shake it

Girl
You give me all haste
You give me all haste
You give me all haste

You give me all haste

You rock it to me shock it to me girl

You give me all haste

"It goes more than skin deep."
